Celebrating Women’s History Month With My Favorite Podcasts!!

“I’m a Woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal Woman,

That’s me.”

Maya Angelou, Phenomenal Woman

Early Sunday morning my friends and I just finished recording an episode of our podcast, Tuesdays Book Club, and we proceeded to catch up on our lives and that of our children. Tobi talked about her two beautiful adult daughters and their achievements with their love child, the Mignolo Arts Center. These beautiful young ladies produce the most sublime dance pieces, telling heartfelt stories through their movement. She lovingly spoke of her bonus daughter and a book she recommended. Nova proudly talked about her oldest daughter, now a senior finishing up her college experience as a D1 gymnast. I brought up my 3 daughters, 7, 9, and 18 years old, all moving in their own strengths as they go through different stages of life lessons. We later got off our call to go about our day but I sat for a moment thinking about our conversations and smiled at the memory of how I’d become adapted to a life of a mother, lover, educator, and career-minded individual with such ease, I didn’t notice until I looked back at my life and wondered how I got there.

Women show our strength in many ways. I think of a book we read for our podcast about two young ladies living through World War 2. How each dealt with the different fates that met them. The Nightingale showed us that there are different ways to fight for your family in the face of pure evil.

It is your untapped passion that an erupt volcanoes and move oceans

It is your duty to fill all the buckets of your desire

Why? I ask.

Why Not? You answer.

My 9 year old once told me MOM stood for “Made of Money”. She mischievously told me this as she tried to convince me to buy her more Robux, a digital currency in her Roblox game. “You do know you can actually have real digital money that you can buy real items in the real world”, I told her as I grudgingly paid the $4.99 and watched it all go down the drain on a pair of pink angel wings and yellow cowboy boots for her digital character. Shaking my head, I returned to my new pastime, scouring Open Sea, a website selling amazing NFTs for decent portion of my cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrency is digital fiat not controlled by a central bank or any authority for that matter. Interest in cryptocurrency has become more and more popular among men but according to an article, “Why (and How) Women Should Be Exploring Cryptocurrency Right Now”, it’s been estimated that only 10 to 15 percent of investors are women. Cryptocurrency can be perplexing and complicated. Thankfully, podcasts like mine, My Cryptocurrency Chronicles and my friend’s, Crypto for Creatives, provide an entertaining and easy road to learning about the world of crypto in its variety of topics.

I decided to post my blog today, International Women’s Day, to celebrate my mother, my friends, my sisters, my nieces, and my lovely daughters. But we shouldn’t just spend a month celebrating each other. Let’s celebrate each other every day. Let’s uplift each other and give kudos to our accomplishments, hug more, love more. Let’s applaud our successes, provide stepping stones to our coworkers, network more, laugh more, support more. Let’s give each other more of ourselves.
