I’d love to say I came up with this idea as I was walking down the beach alone in my thoughts wearing a white linen maxi dress contemplating how I could be so lucky to witness a beautiful sunset when out of the blue, an Orange letter B wrapped in a black silk cloth covered in dollar signs, materialized in front of me, telling me to “start a podcast and educate the masses”…..that didn’t happen at all. Not even close. In fact it was a story of not paying any attention to what was going on around me as a small group of tech geniuses and gamers relished in the rise of Bitcoin, Ethereum and other Cryptocurrencies.
My beautiful mentor, Nova Lorraine, called me one day and asked me what I knew about Crypto. “Minecraft money?” I asked, thinking she lost her mind. This woman was not home playing Minecraft. She was writing her first book, “Unleash Your Supernova”, getting ready to open the Raine School of Fashion, Innovation, and Sustainability, and editing Raine Magazine. When did she have time to play video games and why were we about to talk about play money? I could only imagine the look on her face when I told her what I was thinking. I vaguely recall her laughing for a solid two minutes before telling me to research what crypto was and get back to her at the end of the week.
Research? My son played Minecraft for what I felt was an eternity of hours. I watched him build castles and bathrooms, fight off green things and raise pigs. He then would beg me to give him real money to buy fake money. Not amused, I opened up my browser and it took all of 5 minutes to realize I had made a very silly mistake. Crypto was not Minecraft money but like Minecraft, it would open me up to a different world.
What is Cryptocurrency? Did you know Bitcoin was worth over $40k? What the heck is Bitcoin? I Blockchain a big deal? What’s the point of whitepages? All these questions filled my head when I called my mentor. I drilled her with a barrage of questions. She laughed then too. This time is was because this is exactly the outcome what she wanted. “Barbara…How about you host a podcast where you interview to guests that know the answers to your questions.”
Fast forward to today and I now host my own podcast: “MY CRYPTOCURRENCY CHRONICLES”. I get to interview the incredibly smart people and ask them all the questions I want. Slowly but surely, I am learning about this new way of creating wealth. And what’s great it I get to have y’all along for the ride.
